INTERTWINE
New York City was once the bustling epicenter of America’s clothing design and the manufacturing industry. Immigrants and migrants throughout history gravitated to the Lower East Side for opportunities in the garment industry and almost every generation of immigrants to the lower east side has contributed to the industry and its rich history. The proposed building seeks to preserve the history of New York’s garment trade in the Lower East side while also promoting sustainable practices in the garment industry. The form utilizes vertical voids that break up the massiveness of the facade and allow light to enter into the building. The orientation of the windows allows for light to enter during all times of the day. The terraces create ties to the surrounding context as many of the buildings in the area also have rooftop activity.
